MY ROLE AT CHURCH ON THE HILL
In my role as the Pastor of Spiritual Formation I get to dream up ideas and opportunities for people to take next steps in their spiritual journey. Encouraging people to live out their faith is a really awesome and essential part of what God has called me to do. Through various learning environments like Life Groups and Growth Groups, we discover God more deeply and personally; and this changes us! Through community-based serving opportunities, like our annual Serve MAC one-day event, we live out faith through hands-on expressions of love to our community; this has the potential to impact people and change us!
My wife, Rhonda, and I have been married for 28 years and have two adult children, Lindsay and Megan. These beautiful young women live in McMinnville and who worship and serve God at Church on the Hill, too. We love being able to serve God together as a family.
I have served in pastoral ministry for 30 years beginning as a Youth Pastor for 14 years. Then I spent the next 7 years leading adult discipleship, including 6 years as a Lead Pastor in a growing Michigan church. Rhonda and I moved to McMinnville, Oregon in January 2015 to join the staff team as the Pastor of Spiritual Formation.
MY DREAM VACATION WOULD BE
My dream vacation would include any vacation that doesn’t include holiday dinners or gift exchanges, staying with family members, or requiring more than 6 hours of drive-time to reach the destination. And would definitely include alone time with my smokin’ hot wife. (And by “alone time,” I mean no kids, family, or friends in tow).
MY FAVORITE TEAM TO CHEER FOR IS
It used to be the Chicago Bears until I realized they stink. And then it was any team with Peyton Manning as the quarterback. Now I’m just a man without a team to cheer for. So I play fantasy football with our staff team; this gives me something to root for.
MY FAVORITE MOVIE IS
I really like the “Bourne” Series, the “Jurassic Park” and “Indiana Jones” series’. And I also enjoy films that generally fall into the category of “dystopia” like, I, Robot, The Matrix, The Hunger Games, Maze Runner, Minority Report, Divergent, and more.
MY FAVORITE BOOK IS.
My number one recommended book to people is “Integrity: The Courage to Meet the Demands of Reality: by Henry Cloud. Though not an overtly Christian book, the qualities of one’s life and character the author addresses has significantly shaped and affirmed me as a man, a husband, a Christ-follower, and a pastor.
